Hatched in the Middle East, amid rockets, insanity, and countless bowls of hummus…An authentic and unique guide for students, start-ups, and anyone else who wants to understand who you are and get what you want. Hi. My name is Itzik Yarkoni and I like to tell stories. I also like to help other people tell their stories. In technical terms, you might say that I run a social media consulting agency. But that’s only what I say for SEO purposes. At the core, I’m just a typical Israeli guy. I like hummus. I like spending time with my family. I like the beach. And I’ve got a lot of chutzpah. How much chutzpah? Enough chutzpah to convince an American journalist to write a whole article about the clientless company I’d only recently started. Enough chutzpah to nab the city of Jerusalem as one of my first clients. Enough chutzpah to lecture at Harvard, even though I graduated from some college in southern Israel that 99.9% of the world hasn’t even heard of. Still unsure what chutzpah actually means? It’s guts, nerve, shameless audacity. It means asking for what you want — without letting insecurities get in the way. And to me, it means recruiting people to join my journey in making the world a better, kinder, and more fantastic place — even when the path isn’t crystal clear.I wrote this book to share how I’ve used chutzpah to rebrand myself, to convince big timers to get on board, and to change the world in a way that’s meaningful to me. And I want to show you that you can use chutzpah to make the world a better place, too. But before you say Mazal Tov, there’s a twist.I’m dyslexic, I only started speaking English when I was 20 years old, and I still can’t write a full sentence in English without 10 spelling mistakes. (Meet Rachel, the writer who spent a few dozen hours listening to my stories and then another few dozen hours making sense of them) . If you’re ready to bare your soul, get to know your ideal audience, and think outside of the box, I’m ready for you. Here’s what we’ll be covering in this book:Discover your story: You’re unique. No, really you are. It’s time to figure out what sets you apart and why people should listen to you.Find the people who care: The people who love you — and what you have to offer — are out there. Or, as we say in Israel, Yalla.Itzik Yarkoni is the founder of Brand of Milk and Honey (BOMAH). He’s an expert in guiding people to create compelling online content, establish brand loyalty, and build active and engaged communities. Itzik’s storytelling philosophy has been adopted by diverse clients — from hi-tech start-ups to the Jerusalem City Hall. Itzik's early inspiration came from the residents of Sderot. Though their daily lives were disrupted by a constant barrage of rockets, their stories were largely ignored by the mainstream international media. As Director of Media at the Sderot Media Center, Itzik empowered the residents to share their stories, which he effectively spread across the world. Later, while working at the University of California’s Irvine campus, a hub of anti-Israel activism, Itzik coached pro-Israel student groups to build their online communities and chronicle their powerful experiences. Since then, Itzik has led workshops for over 10,000 people from around the world, created successful campaigns for dozens of multimillion-dollar companies, and developed a storytelling curriculum for international universities.
